Ministry of Islamic Affairs has collected over USD580,000 as Zakat al-Fitr during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Islamic ministry has received USD584,000 from 175,485 individuals by the 29th day of Ramadan. Zakat al-Fitr has been distributed to those on the list of the poor. This year's list consists of 8,446 individuals.
The ministry stated that 1,736 individuals on the list living in Male’ City received USD224 on April 20 and that the 12,989kg of staple food collected as Zakat al-Fitr has also been distributed.
Zakat al-Fitr is collected during the month of Ramadan every year, to be distributed among the poor. The minimum amount due is the equivalent of 2.4 kilograms of wheat flour, rice, or other staple food, per member of the household.
