The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced construction of the runway of the Meemu Airport under development in Muli, Meemu Atoll.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim said the project is progressing at a fast pace. He said that work on the fire building is ongoing with 90% completed. He also said that the construction of a terminal building for the airport is also underway.
Additionally, Azim said the practical work of the Meemu Airport runway has already begun. As such, the ABC layer, which will be laid before the main asphalt layer of the runway, is being laid. MTCC aims to complete the development of the airport by August this year.
The runway will be 1,200m long and 30m wide. In addition to the runway, the scope of the project includes the construction of a taxiway, a flight parking area, and a terminal building. The value of the project is USD14.9 million.
