The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the harbour development project in Feydhoo, Shaviyani Atoll.
The scope of the project included 24,456cbm dredging operations, 9,000cbm channel dredging operations, construction of a 280m quay wall, construction of a T-jetty, a 110m revetment, a 317m breakwater, installation of 1,782sqm harbour pavement, a ramp, mooring buoys, harbor lights, and navigation lights.
Feydhoo has a population of 1,300 residents and consists of a large number of fishing vessels and dinghies. The island is known for its local tourism, which had been hindered due to space constraints and lack of easy access to the harbour.
The government contracted MTCC to develop the new harbour in January 2021 at a cost of USD2.3 million. MTCC stated the residents will be pleased with the development of the harbour, which will pave the way for the development of local tourism and allow vessels to easily dock on the island.
