Ministry of Health has contracted Samal Construction Private Limited to develop the new OPD building in the hospital in Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
The contract was awarded to Samal Construction at a price of USD285,000, with the project expected to be completed within 120 days. The scope of the project includes increasing the bed capacity of the hospital from 30 to 50 beds.
Speaking to PSM News, the Manager of Health Services at the Gaafu Alifu Hospital Shafiz Moosa said that the decision to build a new OPD building was taken due to the lack of space in the existing building. He said doctors are currently treating patients in six rooms. He, however, said that more space is needed as specialist doctors are providing more services for patients. He also said that the new OPD building would provide a larger waiting area for visitors.
Moreover, the health ministry contracted Meehaf Construction Investment Private Limited to complete some work at the health centre in Foakaidhoo, Shaviyani Atoll. The scope of the project includes the construction of a surrounding wall around the health centre. The project is tasked to be completed within 90 days at a cost of USD51,308.
