Gov't urges institutions to work together to provide better healthcare

Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has stated that institutions should work together to improve and strengthen the quality of health services provided in the Maldives.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of hospitals being developed in islands in the Maldives under the Kuwait Fund, Minister Naseem said that providing comprehensive health services cannot be successfully implemented by the government and its subordinate agencies alone. He said that comprehensive health services can be provided to the public through an enhanced system if all institutions cooperated together.

Additionally, Minister Naseem said that strong transportation services are also essential for the Maldives to enhance the healthcare system. He also said airports are being developed under a comprehensive plan by the government to provide emergency services to the public effectively.

Furthermore, Minister Naseem said the main objective of developing tertiary hospitals is to provide easy health services to the residents of the islands. He said that one of the biggest priorities was to expand the essential services that are not available in other atolls after the establishment of five tertiary hospitals. In addition, he said the government aims to improve the quality of health centres in the islands, address the space constraints faced by these facilities and provide additional services.
