The Ministry of Health has contracted two companies for the development of seven hospitals with the assistance of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. A total of USD12 million has been approved for the development of the hospitals.
The companies were awarded the contracts at a special ceremony held at the health ministry. The companies were awarded the development of 30-bed hospitals in Hanimaadhoo in Ha Dhaalu Atoll, Milandhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Velidhoo in Noonu Atoll, Thulusdhoo in Kaafu Atoll, Maamigili in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Felidhoo in Vaavu Atoll, and Vilifushi in Thaa Atoll. As such, Anand Buildtech Private Limited is contracted for the development of hospitals in Milandhoo, Velidhoo, and Thulusdhoo. Duplex Private Limited is contracted for the development of hospitals in Hanimaadhoo, Felidhoo, Vilifushi, and Maamigili.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem said the hospitals will be developed with the latest technology, adding that priority will be given to developing the human resources (HR) required for these hospitals as well as making arrangements to provide services as easily as possible. In addition, he said the hospitals are being developed in an environmentally friendly manner. As such, he said that a 150KW solar power system will be installed in each hospital to reduce energy consumption.
Furthermore, Minister Naseem also said that medical equipment will be provided to all beds in all the hospitals to improve the quality of service. He said that oxygen supply plants will also be set up in hospitals to supply oxygen bottles. He added that the hospitals will be completed within 1.5 years and handed over to the government.
