WHO thanks Maldives for leadership at 38th PBAC

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has expressed its appreciation to the Maldives for its leadership at the 38th session of the Programme, Budget and Administration Committee (PBAC).

In a tweet, Director-General of the WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus thanked the Director of the Ministry of Health Aishath Rishmee for her leadership as chair of the meeting. The 38th session of PBAC chaired by Director Rishmee successfully concluded on May 19. The three days of deliberations covered 30 items and sub-items and provided clear recommendations including nine decisions and resolutions to the 76th World Health Assembly and the 153rd Executive Board. In addition, historical decisions on the Proposed Programme Budget 2024-25 and a WHO Investment Round were passed.

Furthermore, Rishmee also chaired the 37th session of the PBAC, which was the first meeting held after the Maldives was approved as a member state of the committee for the term 2022-2025. The committee meetings, organised annually by the WHO, play a crucial role in determining health sector initiatives and prioritising projects for the year. The Maldives assumed the chairmanship of the committee last year, as appointed by the WHO.
