Gov’t aims to build art galleries and museums in atolls

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon has revealed that the government plans to build art galleries and museums in the atolls to showcase the local history and culture. She made the remark at the function held to inaugurate the permanent collection at the National Art Gallery.

At the event, Minister Yumna said that the Maldives has a rich history that should be explored and that arts and cultural opportunities should be expanded to the atolls. She also said local art galleries that showcase local talent will make the area more popular as a local tourism location, adding that it will help artists thrive and boost the economy.

As part of the efforts to develop arts and culture in the atolls, the ministry plans to build an exhibition hall in Meedhoo, Addu City, and develop the ancient mound known as the Maabadhige Haitha in Landhoo, Noonu Atoll. Other projects include establishing art galleries and museums in Kelaa, Haa Alifu Atoll, and Kinbidhoo, Thaa Atoll.
