Vice President Faisal Naseem has inspected the condition of the existing harbour and sewerage system under development in Dharavandhoo, Baa Atoll. He made the visit to the island to attend the final games and the closing of the Better in Baa Futsal Fiesta 2023 organised by the Baa Atoll Council.
During his visit, Vice President Naseem was briefed on the difficulties faced by visitors to the island due to the limited space in the harbour. President of Dharavandhoo Island Council Ali Sameeh said Vice President Naseem assured that he will work to resolve the issues related to the harbour.
The existing harbour in Dharavandhoo was developed 20 years ago. The island currently consists of a 700ft by 290ft harbour, which is inadequate in catering to the high number of vessels, including large speedboats that stop at the harbour from nearby resorts due to the domestic airport. As such, the government awarded the contract to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop the harbour on the island on January 25.
Vice President Naseem also visited the project site of the island's sewerage network carried out by Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) and was briefed on the difficulties encountered in the project. In addition, he visited Baa Atoll School in Dharavandhoo, met with the faculty, and inquired about the challenges and needs of the school. He also attended the handover ceremony to transfer playground equipment to the new children's park being developed on the island.
