Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop harbours in Nilandhoo and Bilehdhoo in Faafu Atoll.
The agreements were signed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim and Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed, the Permanent Secretary of the Planning Ministry. As per the agreements, MTCC is tasked with developing the Nilandhoo harbour within 510 days at a cost of USD4 million and developing the Bilehdhoo harbour within 450 days at a cost of USD4.7 million.
The development of the Nilandhoo harbour includes the construction of a 130m channel footing, a 131m revetment and a 194m sand-filled breakwater on the northeast side of the island. The project also includes the construction of a 30m long t-jetty, a 237m concrete quay wall, a 100m concrete jetty, a concrete ramp and a 75m revetment to protect the beach.
Meanwhile, the development of the Bilehdhoo harbour includes the construction of a 133m concrete jetty, a 224m revetment and the re-profiling of a 440m revetment. It also includes the re-profiling of 21m of the channel and the construction of an 84m breakwater, 225m revetment, and a 95m wide boatyard. The project also includes the construction of a 44m breakwater and 250m revetment to protect the beach, the construction of a 5m wide pavement as well as channel dredging operations and the installation of harbour lights.
