President inaugurates water and sewerage network in Magoodhoo

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the water and sewerage network and the newly built administrative building of Fenaka Corporation Limited on Magoodhoo, Faafu Atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih highlighted the remarkable transformation of Magoodhoo during his tenure and the significant progress achieved. He provided the residents with specific details of various successful development projects implemented on the island. Regarding the development of Magoodhoo Airport, the president expressed his vision for it to become a premier regional airport. He emphasised several key developments, including the establishment of a VIP lounge, the expansion of the runway to 1,800m to accommodate private jets, the introduction of a fuel farm to support flight operations, and the provision of parking spaces for private aircraft. Additionally, he mentioned the construction of a dedicated hotel facility to cater to the accommodation needs of flight crew during layovers.

Furthermore, President Solih shared the administration's comprehensive vision for developing Magoodhoo, encompassing various aspects such as enhancing road infrastructure. He also revealed ongoing negotiations with a potential partner for the reclamation and development of a resort in the island's lagoon. These strategic initiatives aim to bolster the overall infrastructure and tourism potential of the island, contributing to its long-term economic growth and prosperity. He attributed the rapid development of Magoodhoo to the exceptional unity and collective efforts of its residents, applauding their spirit in driving the island's progress.

During the ceremony, President Solih was presented with a commemorative plaque by the island council in recognition of his contributions. The implementation of the water and sewerage network project on Magoodhoo Island follows the Integrated Water Resource Management guidelines. The initiative aims to provide households with a reliable and safe freshwater supply by utilizing desalinated water and harvested rainwater capacity. The project includes two reverse osmosis (RO) plants, two water storage tanks, and a 5.4km water network serving 166 households. In addition, two pump stations will connect 168 households through a 4.2km sewerage network. The project is funded by the government's domestic fund and the Maldives Green Fund.
