Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has revealed that the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry service will link all inhabited islands by 2024. He made the remark at the ceremony held to inaugurate the water and sewerage network and the newly built administrative building of Fenaka Corporation Limited in Magoodhoo, Faafu Atoll.
At the ceremony, Minister Aslam said the most important pledge of the administration is to connect the entire country with a convenient transport system. As such, he said the RTL service, established in the northern region, will be expanded to Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in July and to all parts of the country by 2024. He assured the service will be well-planned and low-cost and convenient for passengers.
Additionally, Minister Aslam disclosed details of the administration’s development initiative, which included the launch of 561 projects despite the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that 114 of the projects have been completed at a cost of USD291 million, while 228 projects worth USD1.8 billion are ongoing. He further highlighted that water and sewerage systems have been developed in 20 islands and that many of the remaining 122 projects are nearly complete. He added that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih does not participate in groundbreaking ceremonies and only joins the inauguration ceremonies, as the administration is committed to completing the work and serving the people.
