Vice President Faisal Naseem has inaugurated the Five Nations Championship 2023 basketball tournament, marking the first international basketball event held in the Maldives this year. The tournament is taking place at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE) indoor hall from June 14 to 22.
During the opening ceremony, Vice President Naseem had the opportunity to meet with the Maldivian and Bangladeshi basketball teams and witnessed their game. The Maldives team had undergone training in India to ensure their preparedness for the competition. Apart from the host country, Nepal, Bhutan, and Pakistan are also participating in the tournament.
The tournament is an integral part of the government's efforts to promote the Maldives as a sports destination and create opportunities for local athletes to compete against international teams. The administration is committed to hosting various international sporting events in the Maldives, providing a platform for local athletes to showcase their skills and gain exposure at the international level. The current tournament marks the third international basketball championship held in the Maldives under the current administration.
