Customs revenue increases by 19% in May

Maldives Customs Service has revealed that its revenue increased by 19% in May.

Statistics show that Customs received USD23 million in May this year, which is a 19% increase compared to the same month last year, and the value of imports also grew by 5% with USD298 million. India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), China, Oman, and Singapore were the biggest contributors to imports. As such, USD58 million in goods were imported from India, while USD42 million were imported from the UAE, USD41 million were imported from China, USD36 million in goods were imported from Oman, and USD27 million were imported from Singapore. The largest categories of imports were fuel, machinery, mechanical and electrical appliances, and food items.

Additionally, USD19 million in goods were exported from the Maldives in May, which is a 37% increase compared to the same month last year. The Maldives exported the largest number of goods to Thailand, the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, Bangladesh, and Italy. Around 61% of the goods were exported to Thailand while 17% were exported to the UK. Among the most exported items were various frozen fish products.
