HDC issues warning over scam calls regarding housing schemes

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has issued a warning over scam calls, stating that it will not contact anyone regarding the government housing schemes.

HDC stated that it will not contact individuals and ask questions related to the government housing schemes. The company also warned the public to exercise caution and avoid clicking on any payment links shared by individuals claiming to represent HDC.

Cases of fraud and extortion have increased in the Maldives with numerous cases of scam calls and links being sent using the names of various government agencies, offices, companies, and private businesses. Authorities have advised the public to be vigilant over such incidents.

Additionally, the number of scam calls increased after the government published the preliminary list of land plot recipients under the Binveriyaa housing scheme. The government has stated that the list of recipients of flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme will also be published soon.

The government has revealed that 5,000 land plots will be provided to 10,314 recipients under the first round of the Binveriyaa scheme. More than 1,500 plots will be allocated from Hulhumale' and the rest will be allocated from Giraavaru and Gulhifalhu. The final list of land plot recipients will be published after the government evaluates complaints for the recently published preliminary list. Individuals can submit complaints until July 15.
