Fenaka Corporation Limited has successfully established a new powerhouse in Maamendhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, located away from the residential area. The development aligns with the government's policy to resolve power outage issues in the islands and relocate all powerhouses to non-residential areas.
The old powerhouse in Maamendhoo, which had been in operation since 1992, caused numerous long-standing problems for the island's population of 1,200 residents. The persistent smell of fuel and constant loud noise emanating from the powerhouse had been a major source of inconvenience for the community. The previous location, situated in the middle of the island, disrupted the sleep and daily lives of those living nearby. However, with the relocation of the powerhouse to the eastern side of the island, residents are now experiencing relief from the disruptive noise.
Fenaka Corporation Limited has highlighted the significant improvements in service quality and the resolution of the power outage problem in Maamendhoo following the establishment of the new powerhouse. Additionally, the state-owned company has constructed a new office building, enhancing convenience for residents seeking their services.
The new powerhouse spans an area of 252 square meters and consists of an engine room, control room, store room, chimney, and pantry. The accompanying office building, covering an area of 160 square meters, features an administrative office, manager's office, meeting room, restroom, pantry, and storage room. The upgraded powerhouse has increased the power capacity from 820 kW to 1,060 kW. Currently, Fenaka is focused on installing new power cables and establishing a solar power system in Maamendhoo.
