The Ministry of Tourism has extended the deadline to submit applications for the Maldives Tourism Awards 2023.
The ministry initially planned to close the deadline for application submissions on July 16. However, the deadline has been extended to July 31 to provide more individuals the opportunity to submit applications.
The Maldives Tourism Awards is an annual national award launched by the tourism ministry in 2022 to mark the golden jubilee of the Maldives tourism industry. The awards acknowledge and recognise tourism sector establishments and professionals in the Maldives for adopting best practices in delivering services of excellence. Last year, a total of 48 awards were given out to the winners of 12 categories, as part of the events held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of tourism.
This year, applications are open to all tourist resorts, tourist hotels, tourist guesthouses, safari vessels, travel agencies, dive centers, and water sports centers providing service to tourists. The ministry has also introduced the Tourism Professional Award to recognise professionals working in the tourism sector and aims to increase the number of Maldivians working in the sector.
The ministry plans to give out 59 awards to winners of five categories this year. As such, 16 awards will be given out to tourist resorts, 15 awards to tourist hotels and guesthouses, 13 awards to tourist vessels, five awards to travel agencies, dive centres, and water sports centres, and 10 awards to tourism facilities and professionals.
