The Hanimaadhoo Island Council has received a positive response regarding the 12 land plots for lease in the Hanimaadhoo tourism zone.
The council has decided to lease four plots measuring 10,000sqft for a period of 40 years and eight plots measuring 5,000sqft for a period of 30 years, all for tourism purposes. Interested parties attended an information session at the Hanimaadhoo Council office. As such, a total of 75 companies participated in the session and bids for the land plots measuring 10,000sqft will be accepted on August 3 at 1030hrs. In addition, an information session for plots measuring 5,000sqft will be held on July 24 at 1030hrs and bids will be opened on August 6 at 1030hrs.
The government has been actively working on increasing tourist arrivals, establishing more resorts, city hotels, and guesthouses to support the expansion of tourism in the northern region of the Maldives. As part of this effort, the modernisation project for Hanimaadhoo International Airport was launched in January of this year.
One of the challenges faced in developing tourism in the northern region is the lack of direct flights and high transportation costs to the area. To address this, the government aims to enhance transportation infrastructure and accessibility. Currently, there are five guesthouses located in Hanimaadhoo, further contributing to the expansion of tourism in the area.
