Sufficient teachers will be recruited for new academic year: Gov't

The Ministry of Education has disclosed that all schools will have sufficient teachers for the new academic year.

Speaking to PSM News, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education Ahmed Ali assured that the recruitment of teachers is ongoing and all schools will have sufficient teachers before the new academic year. He also said principals are being recruited in addition to teachers and that foreign principals will be transferred to 14 schools in the atolls.

Additionally, Ali said that the textbooks required for the new academic year have been distributed to all schools. He said the school authorities are currently inspecting the books and any inadequacies will be addressed by providing replacements. He assured that any missing textbooks will be delivered to all schools before July 31.

Furthermore, Ali said that the recruitment of foreign teachers for the upcoming academic year has been underway since March and that online interviews began in July. He also said that the candidates that get the highest marks will be brought to the Maldives and the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) will ensure the credibility of the certificates submitted by the candidates. In addition, he said all teachers of the new academic year will have to report to schools by August 1.

The government stated that three new schools are scheduled to open for the new academic year. They include the Salahuddin School in Hulhumale’ Phase II, the new Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) building in Hulhumale' Phase I and the Dharumavantha School building. The new academic year is scheduled to begin on August 6.
