Ministry of Health has contracted Citramas Heavy Industries in JV with Flexinc Private Limited for the construction of a new hospital in Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll.
The company is tasked to complete the construction of the hospital within 540 days at a cost of USD8.8 million.
The hospital development projects are carried out as part of the government’s policy to strengthen healthcare services in the atolls. In addition to the hospital development projects in these seven islands, the government is also developing tertiary hospitals in five regions across the country. The contractors for the seven hospitals to be developed in the Maldives received financial assistance from the Kuwait Fund.
According to the statistics released by the health ministry, a total of 21 Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects have been completed in the past four years. These include projects to increase the space of hospitals and health centres. In addition, this year's PSIP budget also includes USD35.7 million for the construction of new buildings for health centres and hospitals in the atolls.
