Ministry of Education stated that an online portal will be opened to accept applications for teacher licenses.
Speaking to PSM News, Director General at the Education Ministry Mariyam Nasir said the main objective of opening the portal is to make it as easy as possible for teachers to obtain their license. She said the portal will allow them to apply for the license anywhere in the world. She detailed that the ministry will open the portal to receive applications at different times in different zones and will issue digital cards.
Additionally, Director General Mariyam said that the ministry will follow the guidelines published on May 1 when issuing licenses. As per the rules, a portfolio must be submitted when applying for a license. This portfolio will be required when applying for license renewal or category change.
The ministry stated that from 2029, teachers will be required to have a four-year degree. However, students currently pursuing degrees will be licensed. The main purpose of registering and licensing teachers is to ensure that teachers working in schools and other education centres in the Maldives have the necessary educational and technical skills.
