RDC postpones laying asphalt in Ameenee Magu

Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) has stated that it will begin laying asphalt in the eight and ninth segment of Ameenee Magu when the weather improves.

RDC is conducting the Ameenee Magu Redevelopment Project in 13 segments. RDC has designated segments 8 and 9 of Ameenee Magu from Billabong High International School to Iskandharu Koshi police station. The laying of asphalt in these segments was scheduled for July 30 but have been delayed due to adverse weather.

RDC stated that it will start both segments as soon as the weather improves. Currently, RDC is carrying out compaction of the Aggregate Base Course (ABC layer) on these segments, as well as construction of the pavement and installation of pipelines in Segment 9. RDC stated it is working to complete segments 8 and 9 by the start of the new academic year.

Ameenee Magu is one of the busiest roads in Male’ City due to the high number of office buildings and schools and is one of the few roads that run across the length of the capital city. It also is the main network for utility services and connects the traffic to all areas of the city. However, the road has been in poor condition for years and causes difficulties for vehicles and pedestrians.

The Ameenee Magu Redevelopment Project involves paving the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million.
