Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has stated that sponsor letters are being sent to the students who received loans this year and that their studies will not be affected.
Minister Hassan said that the sponsor letters will identify which students have received loans from the higher education ministry and will act as a confirmation of the loan payment. As such, he said that their studies will not be hampered.
Additionally, Minister Hassan said that the ministry has sent mail to each student who received the loan, providing them with the necessary details for accessing the funds. He also mentioned that the loans cover payments for the first semester. In addition, he urged all students to promptly complete the required documents and send an acknowledgment of receiving the loan to facilitate a speedy disbursement process.
The higher education ministry also hosted an information session regarding the student loan utilisation procedure for the recipients. The information session was held via Facebook Live on August 3.
Around USD14 million has been allocated in this year’s state budget to offer loans to students and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided that loans will be extended to 1,225 students that have met the eligibility criteria.
