Gamu Regional Hospital (GRH) in Laamu Atoll has begun Laparoscopic surgery.
GRH has installed the necessary machinery for Laparoscopic surgery and procured additional equipment from Medsilk Private Limited and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Staff from GRH was also trained by IGMH. GRH will initiate minimally invasive surgeries in August.
Laparoscopy is a type of surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to access the inside of the abdomen and pelvis without having to make large incisions in the skin. Laparoscopy surgery has already started in two hospitals in Laamu Atoll. Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) also began providing Laparoscopic surgery services last year.
