Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) has temporarily opened the latest developed area of Ameenee Magu, including several schools, to ease traffic congestion with the start of the new academic year.
RDC began work on Segment 8 of Ameenee Magu on June 10. Segments 8 and 9 include buildings such as Billabong High International School, Ghiyasuddin International School, and Ahmadhiyya International School, making it the busiest area on the road. RDC has decided to allow temporary access to two-wheelers only in the area during the construction period of segments 8 and 9. The measure aims to mitigate traffic disruptions and ensure smoother movement for motorcycles and scooters while the construction work takes place.
RDC said segments 8 and 9 of Ameenee Magu will be completed and open to the public in two days. RDC conducted most of the construction during school holidays to coincide with the start of the new academic year. However, weather conditions caused a slight delay in the opening. The area will soon be accessible, offering better transportation options for the public. RDC is currently working on segments 10 and 11.
The modernisation of Ameenee Magu, one of the main roads connecting all the wards of the city, is being carried out in 13 segments. The project involves paving the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million.
