Gov't contracts to build 400 housing units in Fuvahmulah

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted PT Citramas Heavy Industries and Flex Ink Private Limited for the construction of 400 housing units in Fuvahmulah City on a design and build basis.

The agreement was signed by Director General of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Ahmed Vishan Naseem and Managing Director of PT Citramas Heavy Industries Najah Shareef. The project is tasked to be completed within a year and six months at a cost of USD30.4 million. The project is funded by the government's Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) budget for 2022.

The scope of the project includes two 11-storey buildings with 400 apartments altogether. Each building will have two elevators, a commercial area on the ground floor, and a maintenance office area. The apartments will have three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining room, laundry, and a store room. In addition, a vehicle parking area will be established and each apartment will get one parking space.

Fuvahmulah has a population of more than 14,000 with 12,700 registered residents. The city covers 491 hectares of land but faces housing issues due to the large undeveloped areas. Fuvahmulah City Council had underscored that more than 800 applications were received for 34 housing units previously made available. Therefore, the project holds a crucial role in addressing the island's housing needs.
