Drone-based transportation of samples to laboratories has been successfully tested in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
Addressing a campaign rally in Madavelli, Gaafu Dhaalu, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih highlighted the nation's commitment to enhancing the healthcare system through the implementation of drone services. As such, he mentioned that drone testing has been conducted in the atolls with the aim of initiating the transportation of samples to laboratories.
President Solih also launched the manifesto of the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in an event held in Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Atoll. The manifesto notably encompasses the utilisation of drones for the inter-laboratory transfer of samples. In addition, he announced his intention to establish the National Health Service (NHS) as an independent agency in the Maldives, contingent upon his re-election for a second term.
Ministry of Health has announced that preparations are underway to initiate the transportation of samples to laboratories via drones at the earliest opportunity. The ministry is actively working to kickstart drone-based sample transport to laboratories in August. While several countries globally are already using drones for transporting samples and medications, this service will primarily expedite the transfer of samples and select reports between different islands. In addition, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has made the decision to grant permits for drone usage in civil services by the end of this year.
