Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has stated that Velidhoo Junior College will be open within a year. He made the remark at the ceremony held to contract the construction of the junior college.
The higher education ministry has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to build a junior college in Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll. The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim and Minister Hassan. The junior college will consist of two classrooms, one information and communications (ICT) laboratory, one library, and two workshops in an area of 10,276sqft. MTCC is tasked with completing the project within nine months at a cost of USD772,000.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hassan said that training and developing human resources is a focus of the government. He said that the junior college will take the initiative to another level, compared to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres.
Also at the ceremony, CEO Azim said that MTCC has gained a reputation for reliably completing infrastructure development projects and that the state-owned company has reached a milestone by accepting the junior college project. He expressed his gratitude for the trust the company has received from the public.
