Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited (MTCC) to develop and expand the harbour in Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu Atoll. The agreement was signed by Director General Fathimath Shaana Farooq and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim.

MTCC is tasked with completing the development of the Kudahuvadhoo harbour within 500 days at a cost of USD5.8 million, as per the agreement. The scope of the project includes 52,386cbm maintenance dredging, 5,545cbm channel dredging, 50,736cbm new harbor basin dredging, 180m breakwater, 115m revetment, 321m sand-filled breakwater for outer revetment, 266m sand-filled breakwater for inner revetment. The project also includes the construction of a 372m quay wall, mooring buoys, a 70m concrete bridge, a 90m concrete jetty, 2,265sqm pavement, and the installation of harbour lights.

Kudahuvadhoo is renowned for fishing and for providing medical treatment. As such, numerous vessels enter and exit the harbour on a daily basis and experience challenges due to the space constraints of the harbour.
