Temporary list of Maafushi land recipients open for complaints

Maafushi Island Council has published the temporary list of land recipients and has opened for complaints from the public.

The council stated that the 308 land plots of 2,000sqm will be allocated from the newly reclaimed area in Maafushi. The opportunity to apply for these plots was opened in April this year. All 308 individuals are Maafushi residents, according to the temporary list. The council stated that complaints regarding the list can be submitted before August 24 until 1400hrs on non-official holidays. Complaints can be submitted to the council in physical forms or via email.

The requirements for individuals seeking the 2000sqm land plot include not having acquired a land title or private land or a portion of land larger than 600ft on an island in the Maldives. The individuals must not have a government-built building or flat registered under their name.

Maafushi in Kaafu Atoll has always faced the issue of not having enough land area for housing. The last time land plots were given in Maafushi was 20 years ago. The island is famous for its local tourism.
