The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has requested that individuals who were neglected after being selected for housing by the previous government submit the relevant documents to receive assistance.
At the ceremony held to handover flats of the Vinares Housing Project, Minister of State for National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddeen said that the ministry is making efforts to assist those who were awarded land plots and housing units at the last minute by the previous government. He noted that many individuals have come forward with the relevant documents but highlighted that none of the records were stored at the ministry.
In 2013, the then government decided not to continue the housing project in Gulhifalhu, after many families made their payments. In addition, Sea Life Global neglected to construct housing units in Hulhumale' after being contracted by the government in 2016. The company was sued for accepting booking fees and down payments and agreed to pay USD12 million in compensation to 203 individuals.
