Ministry of Finance is seeking a contractor to build a national agricultural laboratory in Fuvahmulah City.
The finance ministry will choose the contractor under a national competitive bidding process. Interested parties are required to mail any inquiries to the ministry before September 3 and the bid opening will be on September 21.
The laboratory will be built at the request of the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Project for Developing Sustainable Agriculture Economy. The laboratory will be used to conduct analysis, diagnose plant diseases, and culture plant tissues.
The laboratory would be the first such facility in the Maldives and is part of the efforts of the government to develop the agriculture sector. The funds for the project has been allocated and India will provide the necessary equipment while Japan will provide assistance under the Sustainable Economic Empowerment and Development for SMEs (SEEDS) project.
