Vice President Faisal Naseem has inaugurated the first ever expo aimed at raising awareness about substance abuse within the country.
The expo entitled Aharumennaaeku Expo is being held in Hullhumale'. The expo is being organised in collaboration with the National Drug Agency (NDA), relevant foreign organisations and key stakeholders. The aim of the expo is to promote dialogue, raise awareness, and disseminate information on substance abuse.
Speaking at the opening of the expo, Vice President Faisal Naseem highlighted the need to address the drug issue holistically through an environmental framework. He emphasised community engagement and a shift in attitudes toward affected individuals, rather than solely relying on the establishment of rehabilitation centers. Furthermore, he acknowledged that drug-related challenges touch nearly every Maldivian family, underscoring the collective effort required from relevant agencies and the community to find solutions.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NDA Imad Salih elucidated the primary objective behind organising the expo, which is to enhance societal awareness from a health standpoint. He emphasized that the purpose of the expo extends to conveying the significance of both institutional and community support in addressing the matter.
The event will encompass panel discussions, informational booths, as well as a diverse range of games and activities tailored for children.
