Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate of the People's National Congress (PNC) has pledged to reclaim land for the development of an international airport in Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

At a campaign event held in Villingili, Dr. Muizzu outlined his vision for the southernmost region, stressing the necessity for comprehensive development efforts. Additionally, Muizzu announced the initiation of a tourism initiative in the southern region with the establishment of the Villingili airport. He firmly advocated for the presence of international airports in both Gaafu Dhaalu and Gaafu Alifu Atolls. He also indicated that the reclaimed land would be designated for housing and economic activities.

Furthermore, Muizzu pledged to enhance the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex by doubling the size of its cold storage capacity. He also pledged to develop the facilities at Villingili Hospital and initiate the establishment of a university campus on the island.
