Fieldwork for Ihavandhoo hospital commences

The field work for the new hospital in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll, has commenced.

Ministry of Health awarded the contract to Duplex Private Limited on January 13 this year to develop a 30-bed hospital in the island. The project is being financed by Bank of Maldives (BML). The project will be developed within 18 months at a cost of more than USD8 million funded from the state budget. The project also includes the development of an accommodation block and a building to provide additional services as part of the project.

Ihavandhoo, which has a population of 3,300 residents, is currently receiving health services at the Aminadhiyo Health Centre on the island. Residents of Ihavandhoo had previously been travelling by sea to Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll or Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll to seek the services of a specialist consultant. Therefore, the completion of the new hospital is expected to bring great relief to the residents of the island.
