Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate of the People's National Congress (PNC), has pledged to increase the annual Hajj pilgrimage quota of the Maldives from 1,000-2,000.
During a campaign event in Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, Muizzu emphasised the strong ties between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives. He pledged to prioritise efforts to raise the Hajj pilgrim quota and making it a top government priority.
Additionally, Muizzu pledged to enhance and broaden the services provided by the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited. He acknowledged that numerous individuals have registered through the company and never had the opportunity to go on Hajj pilgrimages. He expressed his commitment to securing additional quotas to expedite Hajj pilgrimages. He also set a goal to clear the current backlog of hajj pilgrims within a two-year timeframe.
Furthermore, Muizzu unveiled the government's initiatives for Naifaru. He disclosed plans for a housing project encompassing 400 units on existing reclaimed land, with an additional 45 hectares of land to be reclaimed. He also committed to reducing the prices of flats in the atolls. Addressing infrastructure, he pledged to resolve the island's utility services, construct a sports facility, establish an Islamic centre, and create a campus for the Maldivian National University (MNU). He also pledged to initiate numerous development projects in various islands across the country.
