The Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) has begun clearing vessels from the lagoon in Hulhumale' designated for land reclamation.
HDC has outlined a three-stage plan for the reclamation project. The first phase focuses on reclaiming 10 hectares of Site A, and the state-owned company is currently removing vessels from the area. Vessels docked at the 29-hectare Site B and the 24-hectare Site C have been requested to clear the areas as well.
HDC stated that designated anchoring areas will be located on the outskirts of Hulhumale', as well as in Kudagiri and Dhiyanaru lagoons, to accommodate the displaced vessels. As such, owners must register with HDC to utilise these anchoring areas.
HDC has contracted Sri Lankan-based Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Private Limited (CMCC) to reclaim of land from Hulhumale' under the project. The newly reclaimed land in Hulhumale' will be used for housing and land will be allocated for the establishment of public services for the residents in the area.
