Contract signed to build 200 housing units in Hithadhoo

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted PT Citramas Heavy Industries in a joint venture with Beaver Builders Private Limited for the construction of 200 housing units in Hithadhoo, Addu City.

As per the agreement, the contractor is tasked with the construction of 200 housing units within a timeframe of 540 days at a total cost of USD13.9 million, which will be funded by the state budget. Each of these units will be constructed in an area of 1,000sqft and will be designed to offer three bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a spacious living room, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining area, a laundry room, and a storeroom. The project further includes a park and a designated vehicle parking area constructed in close proximity to the units, with the intention of creating a comfortable and pleasant environment for the residents.

It has been over 15 years since land plots have been given out in Addu, the second-largest city in the Maldives. The housing issue is the most severe in Hithadhoo, which has over 16,000 residents, and land plots were last given out in 2002.
