President pledges to modernise all islands of Addu

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that his plan is to develop and fully modernise all the islands of Addu City.

At a campaign event, President Solih said that his administration has initiated unprecedented development projects in Addu. He recently marked the completion of a major land reclamation project in Addu, and the administration is currently overseeing the construction of 124km of roads in the city and the development of Gan International Airport.

Additionally, President Solih said that in his second term, he will develop all the roads in Addu and facilitate loans for the construction of housing, adding that he will build 1,000 flats in the first round of the housing project. He also vowed to establish water and sewerage systems and develop modern roads on the newly reclaimed land.

Furthermore, President Solih pledged to designate an industrial zone, allow easier importation, as well as facilitate training opportunities and re-exportation in Addu. He also said that he would ensure that the products of Maldive Gas are maintained at reasonable prices, establish a racing track and an indoor sports complex, and expand the services of Addu Equatorial Hospital.

Moreover, President Solih said he would develop eco-tourism in the protected areas of Addu and establish a marine studies centre. He also pledged to establish a disability management and rehabilitation centre as well as increase higher education opportunities. He further made promises to commence sports-related projects and other initiatives needed by residents in individual islands of Addu.
