Ministry of Tourism has revealed that more than 1.2 million tourists visited the Maldives so far in 2023.
The statistics from the tourism ministry show that 1,254,252 tourists arrived as of September 6, which is an increase of 15.3632 arrivals compared to 1,100,620 arrivals recorded in the same month in 2022.
The largest number of tourists visited the Maldives from Russia with 147,187 arrivals, while 138,104 tourists visited from India, 124,549 visited from China, 102,253 visited from the United Kingdom (UK), 82,734 visited from Germany. In addition, 80,560 visited from Italy, 49,826 visited from United States (US), 36,019 visited from France, 25,361 visited from Spain, and 23,780 visited from Spain. A total of 1,266 tourist establishments are open in the Maldives, consisting of 63,040 beds.
The government aims to welcome 1.9 million tourists in 2023 and break last year’s record of 1.6 million tourists. In addition, various projects to develop resorts and guest houses are being carried out to increase the number of beds available for tourism.
