MPL reduces fees for containers shipped to regional ports

The Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has decided to make a significant reduction in fees for containers being transshipped to regional ports from the Male' Commercial Harbour.

MPL stated that a 25% discount will be given on various charges, including handling, wharfage, stevedoring, and handling fees for containers bound for regional ports from both Male' Commercial Harbour and the Hulhumale' International Terminal.

These change in fees took effect on September 15. As such, the fee for loading a 20ft container has been reduced from USD114 to USD84. Additionally, the loading fee for 45ft containers has been reduced to USD78. The reduction in fees will benefit small businesses and traders who rely on transporting goods to the atolls.

MPL said it is committed to enhancing the convenience and affordability of its services for businesses in the Maldives. It is making efforts to expand the storage capacity of the Male' Commercial Harbour, which currently handles an average of 187 containers per day.
