Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has designated a part of Uthuru Thila Falhu for residential development.
The area in Uthuru Thila Falhu designated for residential development is called Giraavaru Uthuru Falhu and is separate from the area controlled by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) where the naval dockyard is being built. The ministry has revealed plans to reclaim 215 hectares for residential development in Giraavaru Uthuru Falhu under the second phase of the Binveriya housing scheme.
The ministry has opened applications for the second phase of the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya housing schemes. The second phase involves the provision of 4,000 land plots and 6,000 flats in the Greater Male' Region.
An area spanning 5.5 million square feet has been designated from Giraavaru Falhu and Giraavaru Uthuru Falhu for the provision of land plots under the second phase of the Binveriya scheme, with the smallest plot consisting of 1,250sqft. In addition, 400sqft will be added to the land plot for each individual in a joint application. If more than seven individuals sign a joint application, they will receive a land plot with a maximum size of 4,000sqft. The ministry is accepting land plot applications from individuals who have lived in Male' for at least 20 years.
The administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih initiated the first phase of the Binveriya housing scheme, marking the first time in 30 years that land plots were made available to residents of Male'. The government is providing over 9,000 land plots to residents of Male' under the scheme and began handing over land plots in the Greater Male' Region in August.
The plots have been allocated from Hulhumale' Phase II and by reclaiming Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu. A total of 19,639 individuals have been deemed eligible in the final list for the Binveriyaa scheme. The ministry plans to give out around 5,400 land plots from Giraavaru Falhu, 2,200 from Gulhi Falhu, and 1,300 from Hulhumale' Phase II.
