MACL forms separate company for air traffic control

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has formed a separate company dedicated to providing air traffic control services.

The new company under the name Maldives National Air Traffic Service Private Limited will operate as a subsidiary of MACL, with Air Traffic Controller Mohamed Athuhar appointed as its Managing Director.

MACL stated that the monitoring and regulation of flights in Maldives airspace fell under the supervision of the Air Traffic Control Tower and Control Centre, managed by the Air Traffic Management Unit of MACL. However, the responsibilities will now be transferred to the new subsidiary company. The government has also handed over the air traffic tower and control centre to the subsidiary.

MACL stated that the establishment of a designated air traffic control company is motivated by the need to ensure safety and security in the face of growing air traffic due to improvements in the transportation system. The company is crucial to effectively manage the increasing movement within Maldives airspace.
