Feridhoo Council to install water purifiers in households

Feridhoo Island Council has revealed plans to initiate a project to install water purifiers in every household within Feridhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll.

To facilitate the project, the council has opened a tender for the supply of 100 water purifiers to be distributed across the residences in the island. Individuals interested in participating can complete and submit the registration form before 1330hrs on October 16. The bidding process is scheduled for October 22 and only registered individuals will be eligible to submit bids.

President of Feridhoo Island Council Ismail Shah said that the project requires an estimated USD32,425. He said that funding for the project has been secured through the support of Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC). He also revealed plans for the government to establish a water supply plant in Feridhoo, aiming to provide water supply services to households. He said objective is to combine the installation of water purifiers in residential houses with the provision of water supply services.

Additionally, Shah said that water purifiers will only be installed exclusively in residential houses. He, however, said that future plans include extending the project to encompass commercial establishments such as guesthouses and cafes.

With a population exceeding 500 residents, Feridhoo relies on rainwater for drinking purposes, with some households resorting to bottled water. The installation of water purifiers in all houses aligns with the development plan outlined for 2022-2026.
