President-elect denies ordering suspension of projects

President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he has not ordered the suspension of any project. He made the statement on Twitter following rumours that the government was ordered to stop the ongoing development projects in some islands.

In his statement, President-elect Muizzu said that neither he nor any of his representatives would issue any directives to halt or suspend ongoing development projects. He refuted allegations suggesting that construction activities were being halted or that machinery was being removed from certain islands based on his instructions.

The Office of the President-elect has requested the government to refrain from commencing any new project during the transitional period. However, ongoing projects are allowed to resume. In a letter sent to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President-elect Dr. Muizzu listed seven requests in order to ensure the seamless transfer of power.

The requests include the government refraining from making new investments, issuing permissions for the sale of state-owned land plots, transferring the ownership of state property, and signing bilateral agreements. Other tasks include the government refraining from commencing any new project under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), changing the salary structure of government institutions, and hiring new state employees during the transition process.
