MIRA aids in identifying tax submission issues

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has initiated visits to businesses in Male' City and the islands with its offices as part of Tax Compliance Day.

The efforts are focused on understanding the challenges faced by taxpayers in meeting tax return deadlines as part of the Fansaahi Campaign which aims to enhance the timely submission of tax returns.

MIRA said its teams are actively engaging with businesses to identify any obstacles encountered in the tax return submission process. MIRA stated the importance of adhering to deadlines, as failure to file tax returns on time constitutes an offense under the Tax Administration Act. MIRA also stated that timely submission not only avoids penalties but also contributes to an improved compliance score for the company, making it eligible for priority concessions.

MIRA encourages taxpayers to file their tax returns within the stipulated deadlines. MIRA said its teams will also be available to provide guidance and support in the tax return filing process.
