The government has designated the area selected for the Magoodhoo Airport Development Project as an industrial island. The decision was made after the area was removed from the jurisdiction of Magoodhoo, Faafu Atoll.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with completing the development of Magoodhoo Airport at a cost of USD15 million. MTCC has reclaimed 48 hectares for the project, which includes 30.8 hectares for the development of the airport and an additional 17 hectares for other purposes.
The scope of the project includes the construction of a 1,800sqm runway, a 2,919sqm taxiway, an 81,443sqm apron, an 895sqm fire pad, a 3,059sqm airport road, and a 1,185sqm service road. It also includes a terminal building, a fire building, and a security post, dredging and excavation operations of 142,381cbm, and installation of a fire pond, fire fighting equipment, security equipment, fencing, perimeter lighting, airfield lightning system, navigational aids, MET equipment, ground handling equipment and road markings.
