New gov't to begin Hulhumeedhoo bridge project in first 100 days

Chairperson of the People's National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla has stated that the new administration will begin the Hulhumeedhoo bridge project in its first 100 days. He made the remark at an event in Addu City held by the coalition of PNC and the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM).

Speaking at the event, Abdul Raheem said that President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that he will prioritise the development of the bridge. Hulhumeedhoo is situated apart from the other islands in Addu City and USD2 million has been allocated in the proposed state budget for 2024 to commence the project to connect Hulhumeedhoo to Hithadhoo.

Additionally, Abdul Raheem highlighted the importance of the PPM/PNC coalition winning the super majority in the upcoming parliamentary election to help President-elect Muizzu in fulfilling his pledges. He urged members to work together to gain support for the coalition's candidates in their constituency after the primary election.

Furthermore, Abdul Raheem expressed gratitude towards the residents of Addu City for their immense support for President-elect Muizzu during the presidential election. He said it was the reason the PPM/PNC leadership decided to begin their parliamentary election campaign trip in Addu.

Moreover, Abdul Raheem accused the current government of trying to divide the PPM/PNC coalition, adding that the gravest injustice was the imprisonment of former President Abdulla Yameen. He, however, said that the coalition has remained steadfast under the leadership of Yameen.
