Gov't publishes final flat recipient list

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has released the list of flat recipients under the first round of the government's Gedhoruveriya housing scheme. The announcement was made while a complaint was submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleging illicit and corrupt distribution of 4,000 flats. ACC has registered the case for investigation.

The final list of recipients slated to receive the 4,000 flats in the first round has been published in the Government Gazette. The ministry specified that individuals scoring 76 and above are eligible for three-bedroom flats, while those with scores of 73 and above qualify for two-bedroom flats. Allocation of the flats to the eligible recipients will be determined through a lucky draw, and the date and time of the draw will be announced through the Gedhoriverin Portal. Individuals not selected among the initial 4,000 recipients but identified as eligible in the final list will receive a letter of allocation through the portal.

The ministry further clarified that in cases where a couple has been chosen for a flat through separate applications, only one flat will be granted to the couple. Notably, a total of 20,697 individuals applied for flats under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, with 13,000 deemed eligible according to the ministry.

Under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) signed the loan agreements for the construction of 4,000 new housing units in Hulhumale' Phase II with two Indian companies in September 2021. As such, 2,000 housing units are being developed by NBCC India Limited, and another 2,000 housing units are being developed by JMC Projects (India) Limited. A total of 32 towers that are 17–18 storeys high are being developed as part of the project.
