Commissioner General of Customs Abdulla Shareef retires

Commissioner General of Customs Abdulla Shareef has retired after 28 years of service at the Maldives Customs Service.

Shareef was appointed as the Commissioner General on June 23, 2020, prior to which he served as the Deputy Commissioner. He had served as Commissioner General since April 2020, following the death of the late Ahmed Numan.

Shareef made significant contributions to the Customs, earning recognition for his efforts. Under his supervision, modern systems were implemented, facilities were established, and border security was reinforced, all aimed at streamlining and enhancing the Customs services. He was presented with a special plaque commemorating his role in advancing the service's development upon his resignation from the post.

Shareef began his career in the service on January 12, 1993, when he joined as a Customs Officer Grade 1 at the age of 22. He also holds the distinction of being the first individual to transition from various roles as an employee within the service to assuming the prestigious position of Commissioner General of Customs.
